A portrait, to be a work of art, neither must nor may resemble the sitter… one must paint its atmosphere.

Umberto Boccioni

Jake Gyllenhaal

This guy is just amazing. He’s one of my favorite actors alive because he’s so down-to-earth and genuinely a great person. I drew him just because I wanted to and I’m so happy with how it came out.

Chuck Palahniuk

This portrait is of my favorite author, and I actually got to hand it to him for his birthday in 2019. It was also one of the first portraits I’ve ever done, and it’s of him as an Archer character! (See: Meeting Chuck)

I actually got to use it for a multimedia class for my English Writing degree and got to turn it into a meme. The whole thing was based around a blog that I dedicated to him called “You Can’t Unread This,” that has since been turned into the one you’re currently reading!

Materials: iPad Pro, iPencil, Sketches app

I initially made this portrait on my iPad and then transferred it onto the wood panel. This is my second semi-realistic portrait of a person and it’s of my grandfather. He’s always wanted me to paint him, but I was always too chicken to attempt anything realistic.

Materials: wooden cut-out, acrylic paint, tracing paper, acrylic sealer, mod-podge, acrylic gesso, misc paintbrushes

Sid Haig (1960-2019)

I painted this card shortly after he passed in 2019. My husband and I are big Rob Zombie fans, and when he passed, the world lost a legend. Captain Spaulding is such an iconic part of the Zombie movie franchise, and now he’s permanently captured in acrylic paint.

I also turned this card into stickers, so if you’re interested, contact me through the contact page and I can ship one to you for $10 (U.S. only).

Materials: acrylic paint, playing cards, glossy varnish, misc paintbrushes, microliners

Machine Gun Kelly

MGK just won his first VMA and I felt inclined to draw him. I couldn’t decide which version I liked better, so I decided to include both! After 5 albums and a lot of people bashing him after the Eminem drama, he deserves this. I’m so proud of the things he’s accomplished and I’m glad that I could create this to represent one of the dopest guys in the music industry.
